The Hodgepodge: a Family Session

The world of blogland is a funny place. If you’re not part of it, you can’t possibly imagine that you’d ever think of people you don’t know in real life as friends, but if you are part of blogland, you totally get it. I joined blogland rather tentatively about five years ago, and I’ve come to love my bloggy friends!

One blogland friend, a fellow homeschooling mom who happens to be local, has become a real-life friend, too. Her blog inspires me, and she says I inspire her, too. I guess that’s one of the reasons we can call each other friend!

Tricia, known in the homeschool blog world as Hodgepodge Mom, takes great photos of her kids, but she’s seldom actually in the photos herself, and her crew was way overdue for family photos. So, I was delighted to photograph her adorable family. We shot this session at her aunt’s house, which was once Tricia’s grandmother’s home place. It’s a lovely little bit of country right smack in a more developed area of town, and it made for a wonderful location that also holds sentimental value for Tricia and family.

The littlest of the Hodgepodge clan kept me on my toes. He is totally adorable, but this photo Ken caught while I was arranging the rest of the family made me laugh when I saw it. I love that Ken finds opportunities like this when he comes along to assist me on a session!

TOO cute!! This guy has fun wherever he goes!

And the littlest girl… when she introduced herself to me, she followed her name and age with a brief bio that included the fact that she loves sharks. She also loves stuffed animals, like Brownie here, who she claims to have had for at least ten years. Even though she is only six. This discrepancy did not seem to concern her.

And just one more of the Hodgepodge, because the expression on little miss ponytails makes me laugh.

Big thanks to the Hodgepodge for this fun session, and I’m looking forward to the next time we get together!

  1. Jamie, you and Ken have truly given us a gift! Not only in your friendship but in these gorgeous photos. You didn’t know but I said more than once over the holidays – if I could just freeze this very moment in time. Right now. While our children are the age they are! And you have given us that in these photographs. I’m so thankful for our friendship. And these treasures!

These are beautiful!! So fun to see Tricia in some photos, and so neat that you could take them for her.
